So people had been talking about technology for quite a while, some people even start saying that they can’t have a life without technology. Additionally, some said that they would be bored to death if they don’t have computer and internet. Is technology really that important to us?

Technology improves our life and makes it very convenient. Let’s think back to the old days when people had to mail everything depending on the post office; it would take like 3 days to receive a letter. Nowadays, people are able to communicate with each other instantly with the availability of cell phone, e-mail, and text message. Academically, technology is very useful and I might even say that it’s necessary sometimes. Before internet was available, people had to go to library and look for the sources they need; with internet access, people only need to type a phrase into the search engine and they would find the information they need. Technology is even good for our environment because we can save paper by clicking on the paperless button, which allows companies to send bills electronically instead of sending paper statements.

     Technology is not perfectly good; it has a bad side, too. A lot of parents complain about how their kids play too much computer and end up damaging their visions. Having a computer or gaming system is addicting, and it’s not easy for kids to control how many times they would spend on electronic entertainment. Parents also claim that their children tend to put most of their attention on gaming and forget about school related stuff. Internet is good for researching but it also contains many inappropriate websites, kids or teenagers who have computer access can easily find those websites.

     Technology is very helpful most of the time, but it can also be harmful. It’s really our choice to use technology effectively or let it harm us.
