What are you doing this summer?
To all of the High School students in Oakland, do you have any plans for this coming summer? Do you want to get a job and make some money, do some volunteer work, or how about participating in a program that can help you get in college? Well thanks to the event called “Futurama” which was held at Oakland High on Wednesday 5/5/10 I was able to get information on several different opportunities for students this summer. There were so many different programs at the event but here’s just a little bit about the once I got to learn from.
“The volunteer center of the East Bay” is a good nonprofit organization that promotes and supports local volunteerism. The Center can help individuals, families, or any groups find volunteer activities. They help you get connected with all types of opportunities around Alameda and Contra Costa county. If you want to learn more about this program you can visit their web sitewww.HelpNow.org.
“Army Skill Training” is another program that will help you get great job skills. You don’t necessarily have to join the army but you can get a lot of training can help you get experience on a lot of possible careers. You can get experience on everything from engineering, electronics, communications, and medical. If you want to learn more about this program visit their website goarmy.com, or call them at 1-800-USA-ARMY.
These were just two of many programs being promoted at Futurama so you really don’t have any excuse for not doing anything this summer.
