Album Review: Boondox–South of Hell

Artist(s): Boondox

Album: South of Hell

Genre: Country Rap, Southern Hip-Hop,  Hardcore Hip-Hop & Horrorcore

Year: 2010

Usually I’m not really a fan of country music, but when I was introduced to country rap by listening to the latest album from the psychopathic rapper David Hutto a.k.a. Boondox, I was blown away by the combining elements of country themes with hip-hop and the creative use with using slide guitars and banjos. Another feature that has been added with this album is a 22-minute documentary directed by Paul Anderson called “Southern Bled”. The documentary talks about Boondox’s life and how he became the homicidal rapper he is today. As you watch this documentary, viewers will see the fact that only very few people “really know” about Boondox as a person. Most people who don’t “really know” about Boondox will most likely rather know him as an associate, & try to keep it that way due to their fear of him. Just as Boondox’s previous albums, most of his songs talk about his life to be real experiences on drugs, violence, and murder. Boondox has never actually killed anyone, but during an interview of the documentary, Boondox’s father has stated that his son definitely has the murder gene in him due to Boondox’s dirty history of the family psycopathy that went on during his childhood. The song “We All Fall” features a new twist of using the auto-tune, which was reviewed by James Zahn of Kick Axe Music to be the weakest track of the album. In my opinion, I liked the song very much and was a good addition to the album for Juggalos & Juggaletes everywhere. So far the album has been reviewed by Kick Axe reviewer James Zahn and has given it a 3.5 out of 5 stating, “Boondox is at his best when keeping the south flowing throughout”. I honestly couldn’t agree more! The songs I recommend for all Psychopatic Record fans (Juggalos/Juggaletes) is “Cold Day In Hell”, “Red Dirt Road”, “Some Kind of Devil”, “Love of My Knife”, “We All Fall”, & “Watch Your Back”.
